Study Visit to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (UKM)

26-27 February 2009

At the end of February 2009, the Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) group of the Fuel Cell Institute, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) went for a study visit to the SOFC lab at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. The visit was headed by the project leader, Associate Professor Dr. Norhamidi Muhammad. The group comprised of Associate Professor Dr. Andanastuti Muchtar, along with two PhD candidates, Dedikarni and Jarot Raharjo, and two MSc students of the institute, Noor Ashrina and Nanda Sastaviana.

The visit was intended to enhance collaborative effort between the Fuel Cell Institute and the SOFC lab at NTU in SOFC-related research. Additionally, the trip was the perfect platform to provide exposure for the graduate students from UKM to the practical aspects of powder synthesis and characterisation of the electrode and electrolyte powders.
The visit commenced with a presentation on research work conducted at NTU by Professor Chan Siew Hwa, the Associate Chair (Research) for the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, NTU (http://www3.ntu.edu.sg/mae/Research/Programmes/Fuelcell/index.htm). Dr Norhamidi reciprocated by giving a presentation on the early works of SOFC research undertaken in UKM. A fruitful discussion on research work ensued, followed by a visit to the well equipped SOFC lab.
Overall, the visit went very smoothly and proved to be very fruitful especially to the graduate students. It was evident that Professor Chan and his team at NTU welcomed the UKM delegation and their kind hospitality was very much appreciated.
